Giving Thanks for... Peonies.

Today I am thankful for so many things but I am especially thankful for the month of November!

November is a great month! I love it because it is not too hot, it is when I start decorating for Christmas, it is when I celebrate my birthday and it is the month where, for a very brief time, Peonies flourish!

I love peonies and always look forward to bringing home the first blooms of the season every November.

Peonies are native to Asia, southern Europe and western North America.

The peony is named after Paeon (also spelled Paean), a student of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing. Asclepius became jealous of his pupil; Zeus saved Paeon from the wrath of Asclepius by turning him into the peony flower.

The peony is a national emblem in China. Along with the plum blossom, it is a traditional floral symbol of China, where the Paeonia suffruticosa is called 牡丹 (mǔdān). It is also used symbolically in Chinese art.

I am so happy that Peony season has finally arrived here in Australia!

Since there are quite a few buds in this bunch I think I will be enjoying the beauty of these peonies for at least two weeks!

Oh how I love peonies!

Thank you so much for visiting me today and for spending 5 minutes of your busy day with me! I hope your Wednesday is wonderful and that the rest of your week is fabulous!

Don't forget to try and find some time every day to give thanks for your loved ones, your friends, the things that make your heart sing or the things that simply make you smile.

Blessings and best wishes always,

Natasha, I just adore peonies! And here in America they are long gone. What an unexpected and beautiful treat! Just as your weather is getting hot, we are chilly and running to put on sweaters! I love spring.... thanks for sharing yours!

Hi Natasha. This post brought a little tear to my eye. You see today is my daughter's 7th birthday, my first born. On the day she was born my Mum and sister visited me and my baby girl in hospital and brought me the most beautiful bunch of pink peonies I've ever seen. Every time I see one or hear the name, peonies, I think of that day and the day my daughter was born. It was 3:32pm today that she came in our lives and we are so thankful for that. I hope you have a lovely birthday this week!

Oh Natasha, can't tell you how I love peonies. They look wonderful.
And such a charming story behind it.

You know, they particularly look good in aqua jars. :) We dont get peonies here so I settled for pink roses instead.

I love Peonies too, they bloom in May here in Kansas (United States). They smell delightful! I've always thought they were an underappreciated flower. Thank you for posting the lovely pictures.
Blessings to you,
