#TuesdayTune ~ A Tune for my Sweet Cellist Maddy!

Welcome to this week's Tuesday Tune post sweet friends! I hope you have a minute to sit back and listen to my favourite song of the week.

Today I'm sharing a piece that my daughter's string ensemble will be performing while on a school tour to Europe. Maddy leaves on Saturday for Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic! Here are just some of the amazing places she will be visiting and some of the venues she will be performing at:

Her choir will be performing at the Salzburg Cathedral!

That very afternoon her string ensemble will be performing at the Mirabell Gardens. The Mirabell Palace and gardens is famous for many because several scenes from The Sound of Music were recorded there.

Maria and the children sing 'Do-Re-Mi' while dancing around the horse fountain and using the steps as a musical scale! Make sure you get a photo just like this Maddy!

They will then travel to Prague...

And will be performing at the St Nicholas Cathedral.
St Nicholas Church and the Lesser Quarter

They then travel to Budapest and attend workshops at the Kodaly Institute and perform at St Michael’s Church in Budapest. The historical baroque church is the home of baroque music in Budapest, named one of the most beautiful baroque buildings in Budapest, Hungary.

They then travel to Vienna...just typing this is making me so excited for them!

In Vienna they will be going to the famous Spanish Riding School;

Attending a performance of Madam Butterfly at the Vienna Opera House;

Wiener Staatsoper

and performing at the Schonbrun Palace!

This is going to be the trip of a lifetime!

So, back to this week's Tuesday tune! One of my favourite pieces that the ensemble will be performing is a piece called 'Elegy' written by Brisbane composer Dr Robert Davidson. Davidson is a composer, bassist, lecturer and founder and artistic director of postclassical quintet Topology which has played at numerous festivals around the world since forming in 1996. Davidson studied composition with Terry Riley in California before completing a composition PhD at the University of Queensland, included on the Dean’s list of outstanding PhDs in 2003.

Maddy's ensemble will be performing this piece with strings only so it will sound different to this recording but I hope you agree that it is an hauntingly beautiful piece of music....See if you can imagine it being played in the Gothic churches and Baroque buildings they are visiting!

I hope you enjoy listening to 'Elegy' written by Brisbane composer Dr Robert Davidson and performed by The Deep Blue Orchestra.

  1. What a trip your daughter is going to have. Truly wonderful. It is great to find other Australian blogs. I am in Melbourne and have been blogging for a few years but have not come across too many Aussie blogs. I saw your link on someone's blog rolls and decided to stop by. I must visit your Christmas blog too as I just love Christmas.
