But

1st posting for "Three or More Tuesday"

I have just returned from my morning walk. The weather is perfect and the air is filled with the scent of Jasmine. Spring-time in Australia is such a beautiful time of year. I wish it could stay like this forever but I just heard that we are in for some very hot weather soon. Before it gets too hot I am going to enjoy being out in my garden and I am going to finish all of my "Spring cleaning".

I have been cleaning the house room by room and I have been finding lots of little treasures along the way. Today I want to share some photos of things that I have been collecting but have been sadly neglecting!
These photos are of my tarnished and dusty spoon collection and you will see that I seriously need to find a way of organizing my collection.....after I have polished them of course!

I thought that since I have more than 3 spoons I might join a weekly event hosted by Tam called "Three or More Tuesday" on The Gypsy Corner's blog. It is so kind of Tam to host this every week-thanks for having me!

So here are my spoons.....

Oh dear what a mess!

How embarrassing....look how tarnished some of them are......

I wonder if I can find a few nice ones?

These spoons were all purchased while on holidays. They represent some of my favorite places. Please excuse my terrible photography!

 The Statue of Liberty, USA

Stonehenge, England

Eiffel Tower, France

Disneyland, USA

Harrods, England

If anyone has any ideas on how I might display my spoons I would very much love to hear from you! I really love looking at these spoons and just posting this has brought back some wonderful memories so I would love to be able to find a way to look at them every day.

Happy Tuesday, NM.

  1. They are all just wonderful. They make great spoon racks to hang them in, or you can also mount them in a shadow box. Either way would be fun. Hugs, Marty

  2. Howdy NM! I am a fan of spoons, my grandmother had a collection of spoons she'd picked up in the garden! YES!! The garden. Apparently, whoever lived in her home before her (as a child) hid silver spoons in the garden. Crazy. Anyway - she had a spoon rack. Have you seen them? They have one just like hers here: http://www.goantiques.com/detail,wooden-spoon-rack,1797306.html of course, you coul paint it, maybe put some burlap or beautiful fabric in the back panels, perhaps some stenciling??? The possibilities are endless!

  7. You could also find a cute antique drawer, paint it 'shabby' and display them on the wall in that! I have left an award for you to pick up on my blog! Ange

  8. I LOVE your spoons! I know I've seen them displayed in a really cool way...I just can't think of it right now. What about making a garland out of them?

  9. What a beautiful collection of spoons! I'm always looking for Russian enameled spoons on eBay. Thanks for sharing!

  10. Ha, I like the Mickey spoon. So recognizable around the world.
Oh I think Ange has the right idea for displaying them. Or even use the glass covered drawer flat on an end table or coffee table.

  11. I love spoons! My Mother collected spoons on her vacations and travels, and had a long mahogany spoon rack in the dining room-- it got to full that the spoons were hung 3 and 3 deep!

The rack hangs empty now in her house -- which is not lived in at present. I am not sure who has the spoons! Hmmm... I'll have to check that out.

You should get out the silver and metal polishes and get to work. You will enjoy re-discovering all your lovely spoons.

  12. You could take a large frame and have an insert of burlap and then hang your spoons on the burlap, fastening them with thin wire. Or...you could buy some lovely old glass jars and toss the spoons inside. I think it's a great collection!

  13. What a delightful collection. Those are great suggestions for displaying them.

I also collect souvenir spoons from the places I have visited. Right now I have them on spoon racks in different categories -- U.S. states, U.S. cities, US places of interest, (including 2 from Disneyland and 1 from Mt. St. Helens!). In a spoon collector’s cabinet are spoons from foreign countries and cities.

I posted about my collection in fall 2008 but seeing yours makes me want to post again and show how they are displayed.
