But

Top five reasons I will be taking the stairs!

Welcome sweet friends to Natasha In Oz {dot} com!

Today I am going to share the Top five reasons I will be taking the stairs as often as I can from now on!

  1. It's a free workout and I won't need any special equipment for it.
  2. It will improve heart health which will lead to lower total cholesterol. (Studies have shown that people who climbed 55 flights per week had lower risk of heart problems....)
  3. It could be faster than taking the elevator, especially during peak times.
  4. I could burn 5 times more calories than taking the elevator.Liz Neporent says that forgoing an escalator and walking up one flight of stairs burns 16 calories per flight. It could also help me build and maintain healthy bones and muscles and to lose weight because even 2 flights of stairs climbed per day can lead to a 6 lb. or 2.8 kg weight loss over one year-what an easy way to exercise for only 5 minutes a day!
  5. Could I make it fun? Hmm ....If I lived in Odenplan, Stockholm it would be FUN-Have a look at this clip!

Ok, I am off to go and find some stairs right now!

Best wishes,

Natasha In Oz

  1. Hi N.
Thanks for checking out and following my blog! I have just been over to "invited in' from here and am following there now too.
Love the youtube clip, don't think you'd get me off those stairs in a hurry, too much fun!
Btw, I can can sooo relate to your post re sleep disturbance. We have a truckie over the road who reverses out of his driveway at 3.30am every morning, so I am woken by beeeep, beeeep, beeeep. Then I finally get back to sleep only to be re awoken by all the noisy birds around here, grrr,
alzheimers runs in the family too so bit of a worry!

  2. Does drinking a Pumpkin Spice Latte with whip while using said stairs totally defeat the purpose?!!!

THanks for your kind words... LOVE the quote!

  5. I love this piano stair video! We just had a stair challenge at the large city hospital where I work, walking up flights of stairs to work or the parking deck and keeping track. It was fun and sort of held us accountable. Now the contest is over and I try to keep it up.

  6. Hi Natasha,
Thanks for sharing this fun clip, I enjoyed it. I always take the stairs, musical or not! But I haven't lost any weight doing it. I guess it's kept some additional "layers" off, though. I need to climb ALOT of stairs to lose these stupid extra 10 lbs!! UGH :(
    Have a fun weekend.

  7. Have you ever seen the pictures of the health club/gym that has an escalator going up to their front door? Hilarious but unintentional.

  8. I love this! My kids would especially have enjoyed this - we actually would have never made it to our destination - we would still be playing on the stairs. Cute post! -diane

  10. Hi Natasha...

Hehe...what an awesome idea to make taking the stairs FUN! I would even climb the steps for that! I know that taking the stairs is a healthy choice...but my knees are bad and steps are painful...eeeks! I'm much too young to have bad knees, my friend! But I do wish you the best in your "stair stepping" journey! Thank you for sharing that fun video with us...loved it!!!

I also really enjoyed your sweet note that you left on my living room vignette...thank you!!!

Have a super Sunday, sweet lady!
