Decorating the Sideboard

Well, the kids went back to school today and they had a great start to the school year. They both came home with lots of stories and they love their new teachers. I am so happy that the year has started so positively- phew!

I really missed the kids today though, and it was so strange to be at home by myself. All the same, I had a good day as I was able to tidy the house, re-arrange some furniture and I caught up on some of my favorite TV shows and blogs:

I heard all about Martha's move to the Hallmark channel

I watched Relocation Relocation

and I watched an old episode of Mad about You.

I hope to visit many more blogs over the next few days so I can catch up with all of your news. I have loved hearing from many of you over the last couple of days and I really appreciate your lovely comments-THANK YOU!!!!

Now, to my poor old sideboard....

Tonight, as I am writing this, I am fairly happy with the way the house is looking following our recent tidy-up effort but I just don't know how to decorate the sideboard in our dining area.

This is how it looked over Christmas:

Hmmm...I think it's time for some decorating inspiration from some of my favorite magazines like....

I really like this traditional sideboard with the gorgeous silver tea and coffee serving pieces and candelabra.

I also like the drinks tray on this sideboard....

This is very simple and elegant....

My sideboard isn't white but I love this one all the same!

BHG

How cute is that over-sized post card!

Southern Living

I really love the beautiful dishes that have been displayed in this image.

This display has such great symmetry.

This is so elegant in its simplicity...divine! Maybe just a bit too formal for us though.

Another white piece....Even though we don't have white furniture I do love the coastal look that has been created here and I do have a rather large collection of shells...I wonder....

Well, now that I have found some great ideas I know what I will be doing tomorrow...sideboard decorating!

If I don't make a complete mess of everything hopefully I can share some pictures with you next time I see you-wish me luck!

  1. Good morning Natasha,
Can't wait to see what you do with your sideboard. All the inspriation pictures are so pretty, but I think my favorite has to be...well it's between two....the BHG white one and the Southern Living one with the big post card...too cute. I know that what ever you do it will turn out beautifully...can't wait. Hope you are having a wonderful day.

    Hugs and Kisses,

    ♥Ana

  2. Natasha~~~

I am so glad to hear that your children are off to school and loving it! And it sounds like you are enjoying a bit of 'alone' time. Good for you!!

I love all of the pictures you shared of sideboards. Wonderful inspiration! I am excited to tell you that there is a new Friday event called the Mantel Party. It is all about posting pictures of your fireplace mantel decor...but since not everyone has a fireplace, the event also includes shelves, sideboards, cabinets, etc. I am having so much fun participating every week by changing around my mantel. If you are interested, it is hosted by Beth of The Stories Of A 2 Z. You can click on her website by looking on my sidebar for it. If you have a problem, leave me a comment and I will send you the info. I think you will like it!! I have seen a few 'coastal looks'!!

Have a wonderful day, my friend! :-)

  4. That sounds like such a fun project; you sure have lots of inspiration. Sometimes, it's fun to look hidden a corner, dishes, vases, china, and find something that seems to mesh together. I know we are still in the snow, but I feel like taking out my silk flowers to bighten the house.

  5. Those are all so pretty. My preference is the silver, china plates, or the costal living. I can't wait to see what you choose!

  8. O, gosh...aren't they all just lovely!! My favorite is the one with the #'s and the oversized post card. I LOVE that look. So different and I love "different".
So glad your kids are liking their teachers..that makes all the difference in the world.

It is snowing, icy and cold here in West Texas tonight and i'm freezing my behind off. Just turned on my electric blanket (on HIGH) and will jump in after it gets all warm. Then I can snuggle down and watch PROJECT RUNWAY..I love that show. Mr. Sweet stays up late and watches something else on Thurs.night.
My post later will show a little snow...:)

  14. Hi Natasha,
You have so many wonderful style options to choose from. Whatever you end up with, I am sure it will be spectacular! I have that same problem with my sideboards, so I change out the decorations on them constantly. Makes for a lot of storing items, but keeps everyone on their toes... Good luck, enjoy your weekend!
