But

Oatmeal Cookies and the Health Benefits of Milk.

G'day from Oz lovely friends.

One of the best things about working part-time is that I have re-discovered the joys of baking. I haven't baked cakes and cookies for years so I have been making up for lost time these last few weeks by baking up a cookie and cake storm! I think that my husband and children are also enjoying this new passion for baking! When the kids come home from school we have been sharing stories about our day over oatmeal cookies and a glass of milk!

Well, my son and I have been loving the milk and we could drink it all day but my 13 year old daughter doesn't enjoy milk very much so the cookies are more of a bribe to help her drink it.  I think she takes after my mother because Mum is not a big milk drinker either.

Perhaps after they have read this post they might think differently about drinking milk.

So, Mum and Madeleine about the Health Benefits of Milk?

1.   Milk contains protein which is essential for healthy brain development, body tissue growth, and heart health. It is also a natural treatment for Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) with studies showing that women taking 1,000 to 1,300 milligrams of calcium rich foods such as milk experience significant improvements in their mood and less pain and bloating during the menstrual cycle.
2.   Milk contains Vitamin A a well known anti-infective vitamin required  for the immune system to function properly. Fat-free milk with vitamin A comes with 10 percent of the vitamin A that a person needs each day.
3.   Milk contains Vitamin B12 which is needed to produce red blood cells for a healthy nervous system.
4.   In order for the body to absorb calcium, it needs Vitamin D. By getting about 15 minutes of sun each day you can get a healthy dose but we don't seem to be getting adequate amounts of sun exposure these days. Milk can help us here! There is a bonus when it comes to Calcium too- it can keep us trim and help prevent osteoporosis!  A study of adolescent girls showed those who consumed the most calcium were also the leanest. Researchers found that calcium at the cellular level causes fat to be broken down in the cell and speeds up the rate at which calories are burned. If we drink a cup of milk and we will get 31 percent of your necessary daily calcium, making it a great food to help prevent osteoporosis.
5.   Milk contains Potassium which helps to maintain proper electrolyte and acid base balance in the body, lowers the risk of high blood pressure, and ensures that both nerves function properly. A study titled Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH), showed that people who consumed a diet rich in fruits and vegetables had lower blood pressure. Add three servings of milk products and the blood pressure lowering effect is doubled!

See Mum and Maddy-you need to drink your milk!!!

Now, I can't provide the same kinds of scientific evidence to support the idea that eating 3 serves of cookies is a healthy thing to do but if it helps the milk go down then maybe once a day could be OK?

So, if you need a yummy oatmeal cookie recipe to help the milk go down you should give these a try.

I also added some craisins and some ground LSA (Linseed, Sunflower kernels and almonds) mix. It gave it a nice nutty flavour.

You just mix all of the ingredients together, form them into balls and bake in an oven set at 350/180/gas mark 4.

I have to say that these really are the yummiest oatmeal cookies I have ever had and they went beautifully with an ice-cold milk!

I decided to have a couple of warm cookies before the kids came home so I set up my laptop to do a bit of blogging at our new breakfast bar.

I used one of my white square Maxwell and Williams plates, a Luigi Bormioli crystal glass and one of my vintage linen napkins.

Vintage Spoon Rack Makeover

G'day friends and welcome to another week! Thanks for visiting me today. I hope you can stay for 5 minutes so I can show you my Vintage Spoon Rack Makeover

A while ago I blogged about my very messy spoon drawer....

messy spoon collection, spoon rack, Vintage Spoon Rack Makeover, Natasha in Oz, spoon collection,

I really wanted to display these spoons but I didn't want to spend a lot of money. A couple of weekends ago when we went to look at the local antique markets I found this old spoon rack.

I decided that I would give it a quick coat of paint and pretty it up a bit!

I found some left-over sample pots from when we renovated our kitchen, mixed a few colours together with some white paint and made a pale grey colour.

And Voila! After 2 coats of paint and a little light sanding I finally have somewhere to display my spoon collection!

I am now trying to find some nice old plates to display on the other side of the painting.

I am so happy that my spoons are now on display. My daughter is making a little felt decoration for me to place at the top of the rack so that I can cover up the hook. I will hopefully be able to share pictures of her little creation soon.

Thanks again for visiting and I hope that you have a fantastic week. Be sure to check out this week's Say G'Day Linky Party for more makeover, tutorials, recipes, crafts and inspiration!

Decorating my sideboard with my new cloche!

Hello sweet friends! I am so glad you came to visit today as I have just finished decorating with my new cloche! I am so happy that I finally found a cloche, just in time for me to join in the fun at Marty's place for her famous Cloche party! I am also linking up with Cindy's beautiful "Show and Tell Friday" party!

My antique Chinese cabinet was the inspiration for my Oriental Cloche display.

Under my bell cloche are some figurines that I found in Japan. They are sitting on a blue and white platter that also comes from Japan.

On one side of the cloche I have displayed some pottery from Japan. My sister and her husband spent a year teaching in Sapporo and they sent this blue and white bunny pottery to Big Al for his Christening.

To the right of my cloche is a blue and white Wedgwood plate, a souvenir from a holiday in Singapore.

To continue with the Oriental theme I displayed a little vessel  from Japan under a glass dome and placed them on a coffee table book called "Japanese Style." Also on display is a beautiful antique lacquered bowl.

Would you mind if I show you my apothecary jars? Previously they were on my sideboard but I decided that they might look nice in the main bathroom...

I know that these aren't cloches but this is my favorite fragrance! I also love the gorgeous red packaging in our grey, green and white bathroom.

I am so happy that I finally found a cloche and I am so happy that Marty is having this great cloche party.
Thank you again Marty for introducing me to the beauty of cloches!

Best wishes for a wonderful weekend,

An afternoon at the beach.

Welcome friends! I hope you are all having a great week.

These pictures were taken late in the afternoon as the sun was setting and the lifeguards were packing up after a long hot day.

As you can see the weather was divine with not a cloud in the beautiful blue sky!
