Organizing a Pantry: Pantry Ideas and Inspiration.

G'Day and welcome to Natasha In Oz! I'm so glad you have found time in your busy day to spend some time with me in my little corner of the world!

Today I am so excited to be sharing some pictures of my pantry with you! I know people don't normally get excited about pantries but, well, I am so in love with mine!

According to Wikipedia, a pantry is a room where food, provisions
or dishes are stored and served in an ancillary capacity to the kitchen. The derivation of the
word is from the same source as the Old French term paneterie; that is from
pain, the French form of the Latin pan for bread.

Pantries can be big....

Catherine Pond's love of pantries inspired her to write a book about them!

She says...“Unlike the sterile Victorian workrooms and their even smaller successors, today’s kitchen—whether large or small—is the deliberate center of the American home…According to a 2005 National Association of Home Builders survey, walk-in pantries are the most requested feature in kitchens today. Perhaps it is the popular return of home cooking and baking. Perhaps it stems from the 1990s trend of nesting and stockpiling for the ‘new millennium,’ world disaster, or a cozy blizzard. Perhaps it is because a good pantry makes sense.”

  5. I don't have one of those fabulous walk-in pantries--just a "reach-in" pantry that is not near as organized as yours. You've inspired me though--think I'll go move a few things around before I lose this feeling!

  8. What a well-organized Pantry!
The Great Dane built me a pantry, but it goes through phases and right now is in the messy phase, which comes right before the wild-organizing-spree phase. No photos of the pantry as it is!

  9. Hello Natasha,

I love a well organized pantry. I love your pull out drawers. Your pantry looks great! Read your response to someone's inquiry about them and I am going to check out IKEA to see if they have some pull outs I can use for my pantry. I started to remodel mine last year but still have a few changes I would like to make. I used to have a whole lot of Tupperware but now I use a lot of glass containers I found while thrifting.

I also have been storing my fabric, soap, herb, and scrapbooking supplies in there, now the fabric and scrapbooking have mover out, wahoo...more room. The room is 8 by 30. Oh and my fridge is in there, too. Welcome to PS.

  20. Your pantry is perfect. But what, pray tell is piri pin? I was very intriqued with that.

Those super organized pantries scare me just a bit.

How much pressure is there to maintain that?

    Too much for me obviously!

Thanks for this fun post on our little journey through Alphabe-Thursday's letter "P"!

  28. Our kitchen does have a pantry, but I believe that it was an after thought and not well planned. The makeover is on the we'll-never-get-to-it-list.
For Sunday I thought I might post my recorder music by Panero to go along with your panpipes. If it is not a pleasing pick for placement, please prune it - I will not pout.

  29. Thanks so much for visiting Mya! I am still not sure what song I will be posting on Sunday...I am now thinking of posting something my Mum will like for Mother's day! Decisions Decisions...

Our pantry is more like yours, only half the size. We have a narrow cabinet with pull out shelves. My dream is to have a butler's pantry.
Thanks for sharing the pantry photos. Great post!

  35. I'm sort of ashamed to admit that my pantry resembles the messy, cluttered ones more than the organized ones. Every time (and I do, literally, mean every single time) I go in there, I think "boy, I really need to clean this up". And if it were up to me, it would stay that way. Sadly, as we all know, that's not the case!

Great Foodie Friday AND Alphabe-Thursday post!

Yours is the perfect size.. if mine was larger, more space to keep clean...

  54. Our pantry is very small, and I'm short and have a hard time reaching the top shelf. I've been considering installing the pull out drawers, such a great idea. This was a fun post. Can you imagine having a pantry like that first one? I'm afraid I'd get lost :) Kathy

  57. Hi Natasha-

I love to see an organized pantry. I used to have mine in a small closet, but then we took a closet in my mudroom and expanded it. I love it now. It is interesting how many staples in your pantry look the same as mine and others with different packaging for Australia brands. I never saw the book. I am going to go to Amazon and see if I can still order it - I know I will love it.

    My best- Diane
