My mum loves listening Basia. Have you heard Basia sing?
Basia Trzetrzelewska, known professionally as Basia is a Polish singer-songwriter who established a successful international recording career featuring Latin-flavoured jazz-pop crossover songs during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Wikipedia states, "she is noted for possessing a wide vocal range, approximately three octavescontralto to soprano tessituras, as well as her singular jazz-influenced stylings and multi-layered harmonies."
Basia's first solo album, Time and Tide (1987), was certified platinum. "New Day for You" and the title track garnered airplay on adult contemporary, jazz and college radio stations in the U.S. The mostly original selections featured musical influences as diverse as bossa nova, 1980s New Wave, upbeat jazz and adult contemporary pop. Basia's second album, London Warsaw New York (1990), also went platinum. "Cruising for Bruising" became a hit and the video gained some airplay on VH1.
Basia flaunts a "rich, freewheeling voice" and "stylish urbanity," according
to Cathleen McGuigan in Newsweek; hers "is music for grown-ups, but it's not too smooth--no one could sit still through its irresistible bossa nova beat."
Basia is currently on tour promoting her latest album, "It’s That Girl Again" but unfortunaly she won't be heading to Australia. She is visiting the US later in the month so if you like her music her dates can be found here.
So Mum, since we can't visit America in the next couple of weeks, here is the next best thing!
I hope you also enjoy my mother's favourite singer, Basia, singing "Baby You're Mine" from her fabulous album "London Warsaw New York" (1990)
Happy Mother's Day Mum!
