The song You Raise Me Up was originally written as an instrumental piece and titled "Silent Story." The melody is based on a traditional Irish tune (especially the opening phrase of its chorus), the Derry Air, which is best known as the usual tune to the 1910 song Danny Boy. Løvland approached Irish novelist and songwriter Brendan Graham and Irish novelist and composer to write the lyrics to his melody after reading Graham's novels. It was originally released on the 2002 Secret Garden album "Once in a Red Moon," with the vocals sung by Irish singer Brian Kennedy.

This version is sung by Irish "Boy Band" Westlife.

I hope you enjoy this special Father's Day Tuesday Tune, You Raise Me Up.

I love hearing music from all around the world and learning about new artists so, if you have ever shared a song on your blog, I would love it if you could link up with me in my weekly Tuesday Tune Linky party!

Yesterday would have been my dad's 82nd birthday. He died while in his 60s. I miss him a lot but know that some day we will be reunited.
I lit a candle in his honor yesterday and told him how much I love him.

  28. Natasha, you got me scared for a second as I thought I had MISSED Father's Day! Here in US we celebrate it in June and in Brazil it's celebrated in August! Good I didn't miss anyone.
Beautiful family! Your daughter looks like your clone.

  29. Lovely music for your family pictures - beautiful post.
Never thought about it, but there are different dates for Father's Day. Ours is earlier in the summer.
But still, we did have a long weekend to celebrate Labor Day by not laboring. The best to you and yours.
ps: a chocolate feast at an international dessert shoppe would be a fun treat

  30. Natasha, this is not in place of the chocolate feast, but after you are through grading papers please come over to my blog. This is all on the spur of the moment so would you mind bringing some of your fancy cupcakes?

  32. what a wonderful father's day celebration
    and glorious song!

how funny that i thought everyone

  33. It's not Father's Day in the US, but I am going to call my dad and tell him how much I love him at a reasonable hour in the day! I love the song, it made me cry. Love the blog, I am a new follower. I posted a song that I wrote about this week, coincidentally written by a father to his daughter about how quickly time passes. It's French, and I love it. Happy Father's Day!
