#TuesdayTune ~ Enya

Hello my dear friends! Welcome to NatshaInOz.com and welcome to this week's #TuesdayTune post!

Enya is an Irish singer, instrumentalist and composer. She was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Co. Donegal, Ireland. She began her musical career in 1980, when she briefly joined her family band Clannad, before leaving to perform solo. She then gained much wider recognition for her music in the BBC series The Celts in 1986. (Source)

Shortly afterwards, her 1988 album Watermark propelled her to further international fame with the hit single "Orinoco Flow." She became known for her unique sound, characterised by voice-layering, folk melodies, synthesised backdrops and ethereal reverberations.

This was followed by "Shepherd Moons" "The memory of trees" "Paint the sky with Stars" "A day without rain" which produced the single 'Only Time' "Amarantine" and for "Lord of the Rings; the fellowship of the Ring" the songs "Aniron" and "May it be". Enya, Nicky and Roma were nominated for a Golden Globe Award and for an Academy Award for the song "May it be" and have also merited many other nominations and awards, including the Ivor Novello for International Achievement.

The latest honours bestowed on Enya were two Honorary Degrees, the University of Galway honoured her with Doctor of Music and the University of Ulster honoured Enya with Doctor of Letters. She is Ireland's best-selling solo musician and is officially the country's second-largest musical export after the band U2. Today's #SundaySong is "Trains and Winter Rains" from the album And Winter Came....

The music video shows a boy's journey home on a train in London. It also shows Enya on a train with some shots of the New York skyline.

City streets passing by
Underneath stormy skies
Neon signs in the night
Red and blue city lights
Cargo trains rolling by
Once again someone cries

Trains and winter rains
No going back no going home
Trains across the plains
And in the sky a star alone.
Agnus Dei (Latin for Lamb of God)

 I hope you enjoy it!

I hope you are recovering from that terrible flood!

I have always loved the beautiful music of Enya; thanks so much for the background and feature! Unfortunately, when I went to play the video on your site, it said it was disabled by request(perhaps the code needs to be reloaded and recopied?) I'll check back in a bit as I would love to hear the song you posted!

  12. I am enjoying listening to this selection. I have heard her name but was not that familiar with her music. That is one of the things that I like about coming her on Sundays - you get to hear music from many places.
    Thank you.
