But

Flu season...

I have had a sick boy at home with me for the last couple of days. The flu season is well and truly in full swing here in Australia and it's really hitting people hard.

Apparently we are in the grips of one of the worst flu seasons in recent years with the number of people suffering from the flu increasing by 50 per cent this year. This is hardly surprising  following our horrific summer full of natural disasters and a cooler than usual Autumn/Winter.

Big Al has had the usual aches and pains combined with a runny nose and cough. He has been a very good patient but he is really getting sick of being stuck at home. I never thought I would ever say this but I think I might be sick of Winter! Thank goodness Spring is just around the corner.

Oh well, the cold temps are perfect tea-drinking weather so I think I might make a nice hot chocolate for Big Al and a strong cup of Yorkshire tea for me....

after all...

Drinking a daily cup of tea will surely starve the apothecary.

I guess it could be worse....I sure do hope that Mr Attorney's cold doesn't turn into the "Man Flu"....I couldn't handle two sick boys!

Best wishes until next time,
Natasha In Oz

  1. Hi Natasha, how true! My daughter and I got 'it' 2 weeks ago (tomorrow). She missed a whole week of school and I'm just starting to feel like doing something. It has been the coldest winter I can ever remember in Brisbane. Temps very rarely got under 10 deg C and this winter the minimums have never got over 10! I can 'smell' spring in the air. Looking forward to those warm, balmy nights and the kids running around in singlets and shorts. (The winter washing is unbearable, isn't it? LOL)

  2. Thanks for your comment Anne! You know I usually love Winter, especially here in Brisbane, but this year I am getting quite sick (literally and figuratively!) of it. I agree with you, bring on those hot summer days by the pool!

    Take care and best wishes,
    Natasha.

  3. I hope your family is well soon. Flus are so terrible. I have heard that flus cycle back and forth between Australia and America with the alternating seasons. Take care of you too.

  4. So sorry to hear that the flu has visited your home. I hope it dosen't get too bad or stay around too long.

I wonder if the flu season in Australia is any indication of how it will be here in the States?

    Or is it visa versa?

  6. I hope that you and your family are all well soon! Last winter was very bad for us also, but now that summer is here, we are breaking all kind of heat records and are in the midst of a drought. So I guess you have to be careful what you wish for!!

  14. I'm so sorry to hear of your boy's illness and hope he is on the road to recovery soon.

Take care of yourself in the midst of caring for everyone else. It seems moms must stay healthy of the whole ship goes under!

We're in the middle of a hot, humid summer here so it's odd to think about winter. Ah well, when we're sweating, you're shivering and soon enough the roles will be reversed.

Take care and enjoy your tea!

  15. Good luck! Men definitely do not do well with being sick!
    Hope everyone gets better quickly.
Here, it would be lots of chicken noodle soup or chicken broth, and lots of orange juice or vitamin C.

  16. So sorry the flu bug hit your house. My daughter has it at her house. Her husband and 3 of her 4 children all have the stomach flu. Then she got it. As much as I'd love to be there to help her, I don't think I want to go pick up that bug!

Hope everyone gets and stays healthy.

  22. Hello Natasha

I hope you are well for the least anyway x

God - steer clear of man flu as it is the worst kind, didn't you know!

I wish you peace and wellness in your house very soon - and no more sneezing.

There has been a terrible fever virus doing the rounds in Brisbane - so I hope that doesn't travel to your neck of the woods.

    Happy weekend to you anyway

    x
