The National Breast Cancer Awareness (NBCAM) program was founded in 1985 by Zeneca. Set up as a weeklong campaign aimed at promoting mammography as the most effective weapon in the fight against breast cancer. The NBCAM has now grown to an international phenomenon, with events and activities each October which increase awareness, and raise funds at the same time.

May all beings everywhere plagued with sufferings of body and mind quickly be freed from their illnesses. May those frightened cease to be afraid, and may those bound be free. May the powerless find power, and may people think of befriending one another.
Early detection is key and if I hadn't found my lump early, I don't know what would have been. I am still here and I want to encourage women to do that on a regular basis. My cancer scare changed my life. I'm grateful for every new, healthy day I have. It has helped me prioritize my life. ~Olivia Newton-John

I am thinking pink this month.Remembering two Aunts who passed from Breast Cancer...
ReplyDeleteI know so many people who have had breast cancer. I also took care of many patients who lost their lives to stage IV when I worked as a nurse. It touches so many lives but strides in prevention, surgery, and chemo truly have been made since I was a young nurse Thank God.
ReplyDeleteIt touches everyone, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteNice post.
I have my Pink Ribbon at the top of my blog... each click donates money for women who can not afford a mammogram.
ReplyDeleteEvery little bit counts.

Great post, Natasha.
ReplyDeleteYou'd think that in 2011 every woman would know how to do a simple check to keep herself healthy but it's surprising how many women don't bother.
It's always good to be reminded.

ReplyDeleteSo imporatnt! I have too many friends with different cancers right now & my heart is broken. Thanks for your post Natasha!
ReplyDeleteAh, I just found this post, after leaving a comment on another one of your post. I have terminal breast cancer. Sadly, despite having Radical Mastectomies and treatments, the cancer has spread throughout my body. In sharing that, I will say that my spirits are good on most days. And, I have lived much longer than was expected! I'm a Fighter and don't give up easily. Only recently, I've felt some despair that I may be entering my last Holiday Season. THAT makes me sad! I live alone, well not alone if I count Fauna and Flora, my two cats! But, I am wheelchair bound and have no family near me, so some days I feel alone. But, I always know that God is with me, so that gives me Peace. I am so happy that you are doing well after your own journey with breast cancer and I pray that you continue to do well! I hope we can become blog friends, even though I'm not always able to do much blogging myself! I look forward to following your blog and watching you decorate for the upcoming Holidays! Hugs ~ Jo
