Today I am so sad because one of my favourite comedians passed away at only 56 years of age. Rik Mayall was a comedic genius and was truly one of the most talented people of British TV and film. His career included appearances in shows including Blackadder, Bottom and The New Statesman.
His best-known movie role was in the 1991 comedy Drop Dead Fred also starring Phoebe Cates, a movie I think I've seen at least 25 times!
My favourite Rik Mayall character was as Rick on the early Eighties British cult comedy The Young Ones. He played a pompous, poetry-spouting and Cliff Richard-obsessed sociology student.
In 1986 Cliff Richard recorded a charity version of his hit single Living Doll with the The Young Ones cast for Comic Relief so it is only fitting that this will be today's Tuesday Tune.

The BBC's director of television Danny Cohen called Mayall a "truly brilliant comedian".
"His comic timing was outstanding and his screen presence unique. For a generation of viewers he was a true comedy hero," he added.
