G'day from Oz, dear friends! Thanks so much for dropping by to visit me at my bloggy home,
Natasha in Oz. Today I am sharing some pictures from a fun morning we spent in Brisbane's Chinatown.
We went for a dim sum/yum cha lunch and ate all the usual delicacies like shumai (pork dumplings), custard tarts, yam, spring rolls, sticky rice and chicken's feet! It was all delicious.
My favorite dish is the Wu Kok or yam dumplings. The outer layer is crispy and crunchy and the inside filling is made from seasoned ground pork. Yum!
Not everyone likes this but Madeleine and I LOVE
braised chicken's feet! The poultry is marinated in a secret sauce that contains char siu sauce, Chinese rice wine (shaoxing), ginger, star anise and other yummy ingredients then it's deep-fried. They are then plunged into iced water to make them 'puff up' then they are braised to infuse even more flavour. They might look gross but they are SO delicious!
After we had finished eating we went to the Asian markets and stocked up on lots of Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malaysian, Korean and Japanese products.
I love going to Chinatown in Brisbane. It's not the biggest and the best in the world but it's worth going just for the delicious foods and great supermarket. If you haven't been to your city's Chinatown for a while why not go for a visit this weekend!
Thanks so much for visiting today.
