Thanks so much for taking the time to join me today to share YOUR latest and greatest blog posts with bloggers from all over the world!

Today I'm doing something a little different and sharing the story of Reshma, who in 2014 was allegedly the victim of and acid-attack. Her brother-in-law threw sulfuric acid on her face while she was visiting Northern India to take an exam.

Sharing the story of Reshma, who in 2014 was allegedly the victim of and acid-attack. Her brother-in-law threw sulfuric acid on her face while she was visiting Northern India to take an exam.

Even though she lost her left eye and her right eye is partially closed and infected, and she suffers from severe burns and disfigurement, she has made a video beauty tutorials to raise awareness of the staggering gender inequality in India. She also explains that it is just as easy to purchase lipstick and lip balm as it is to buy concentrated acid. Acid can be sold for as little as a dollar or 50 cents a litre.

As Good Housekeeping said, watch this video and prepare to be moved, to be angered, and to take action.

According to the BBC, there as many as 1,000 acid attacks in India every year, and almost 90% of these victims are women. Experts believe that women and girls are victims in 75-80% of cases. Of the female victims, about 30% are under 18.

If you were moved to tears about this like I was I urge you to sign the Make Love Not Scars petition that seeks to ban the over-the-counter sale of acid.

Make Love Not scars

Make Love Not Scars (MLNS) is a non government organization dedicated to provide acid attack victims an opportunity to regain their life on their own terms through recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration.

Here's a few of the pictures I took on my quick visit to the Capital.

I'm feeling a bit sad today as it is the last day of my Spring Vacation. It's back to school time for me and I'm not happy!

I caught a cold for the last week of the holidays and have had the worst springtime allergies ever this week so I've literally been stuck at home and resting instead of having fun!

At least I found time to do some pinning and was able to share a few of your fabulous posts on Pinterest.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined in with last week's linky! I wasn't able to get organised to do features this week but if you'd still like to grab a 'featured' button to add to your blog please do so!

A Blue Tuesday Tune | Regina Spektor's 'Blue Lips'

Happy Tuesday sweet friends! I am so glad you have stopped by to hear my latest Tuesday Tune.

#TuesdayTune #NatashainOz #Music

Far is the fifth studio album by American  singer-songwriter Regina Spektor.

A Blue Tuesday Tune | Regina Spektor's 'Blue Lips'

Rolling Stone magazine in 2009 labelled Spektor as "New York's Screwball Pop Queen" and The Guardian described her music as "polarising." I guess when she says things like this she could be considered a little quirky:

"It doesn't feel natural to me to write some diary-type song," Spektor, 29, says. "I want to write a classic like 'Yesterday,' but weird songs about meatballs in refrigerators come into my head no matter what – I can't help it."

Regina Spektor's new album, What We Saw From the Cheap Seats, comes out May 29.

As this post goes live I am (hopefully!) sitting on the beach at my favourite place in Australia, Mooloolaba! Through the magic of post-scheduling I'm able to host this weekend's Sundays Down Under linky party and enjoy the first week of Spring Break! Isn't technology great?

I intend to use this week to relax, rejuvenate and rest but I also intend to EXERCISE! I'm going to walk along the beach every single day for at least 1 hour and I'm going to exercise my brain by catching up on some reading.

After all, exercise and brain power are intrinsically linked so I'll be keeping both my body and my mind healthy!

Gnocchi with Chorizo and Cherry tomatoes: fast, easy and so scrumptious!

G'day from sunny Brisbane sweet friends! Welcome to my little bloggy home Down Under!

Well, it's been as hectic as ever around here. School has been an endless cycle of teaching, grading papers, updating files, maintaining student records, teaching, grading papers....I'm sure you get the picture! I've also been helping Alastair get prepared for all of his school work and assessment and amidst all of this chaos Madeleine has returned home from university for a quick break! It's been a crazy time but I'm still loving it!

One thing that keeps me organised and sane at these busy times is having a collection of healthy '15-minute meals' that can be whipped up in a few minutes. This recipe for Gnocchi with chorizo and cherry tomatoes is one of my favourites because it is fast, easy and so scrumptious!

I'm afraid that I don't have anything too exciting to share this week. I've had so many things going on at home and at school it's been quite crazy!

I did however want to quickly share my first Periscope video that I shared a few weeks ago. If you aren't too familiar with Periscope you might want to read a post that I published about it to learn more. It recently hit 13 million users in 5 short months so this is obviously a very popular and worthwhile social media tool to be engaging with!

Vietnam Veterans Day and a Tuesday Tune: Redgum's 'I was Only 19'

Today, August 18th, is Vietnam Veterans Day. The day was originally known as Long Tan Day, a day to commemorate the Battle of Long Tan in 1966, Australia's most significant campaign in Vietnam. Now, we use this day to formally acknowledge the service and sacrifices of all Australians and New Zealanders who served in Vietnam.

Vietnam Veterans Day and a Tuesday Tune: Redgum's 'I was Only 19'

On that day, 108 Australian and New Zealand soldiers fought a pitched battle against over 2,000 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops in a rubber plantation not far from the small village of Long Tan. The Australians prevailed, but only after fighting in torrential rain for four hours. They were nearly overrun, but were saved by a timely ammunition resupply, accurate artillery fire from the nearby Australian base, and the arrival of reinforcements by armoured personnel carrier. Eighteen Australians lost their lives and 24 were wounded, the largest number of casualties in one operation since the Australian task force had arrived a few months earlier.

Long Tan action, Vietnam, 18 August 1966 by Bruce Fletcher (Wikipedia)

Many of the soldiers who served in Vietnam are still psychologically and physically wounded by the war that no-one wanted to take part in. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, of the 60,000 Australian troops who served in Vietnam, 74% are classified as suffering from some form of health impact as a result. Many veterans, like my father, suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and many more suffered from cancer related to Agent Orange. On top of this, when the Vietnam vets returned home many were ignored, spat on and shunned. Most of these soldiers were conscripted and did not want to be there.

Vietnam Veterans Day and a Tuesday Tune: Redgum's 'I was Only 19'

This Vietnam Veterans’ Day I want to remember the sacrifices made by our young men and women in a conflict that spanned a ten year period. I especially want to thank my dad for overcoming PTSD, being a great dad, inspiring my kids to try their hardest in everything they do and for being a great Australian.

Vietnam Veterans Day and a Tuesday Tune: Redgum's 'I was Only 19'

Please thank a Vietnam Vet today if you know one and remember the sacrifices that they made throughout the war and on their return.

Lest we Forget

Best wishes,

Natasha In Oz
